The Substrate | Salvaged Australian Blackbutt
Our process begins with the built environment. We rescue Australian Blackbutt floorboards from demolition to create hand-crafted mitred frames, while repurposing construction scrap for our machined, self-standing arboreal anchors. Helping to create a contrast between rustic, hand-finished textures and sleek, modern precision
A sustainable Framework
Material led structural integrity
The Wooden Pin: Each frame is held together by a hand-turned pin sourced from the same Blackbutt board as the frame itself.
The elemental Support: We bypass plastic hangings for repurposed copper wire, providing a durable backing.
The Inset: cardboard salvaged and repurposed from discarded packaging. The waste becomes the backing layer that is pinned in place to seat the artwork within. opting with this simple process allows for a light weight approach designed for self adhesive hooks if wall studs are not available.
The Finish | Reactive & Organic Chemistry
The Organic: Hand-rubbed Beeswax for a little pop, or Shellac for a soft, natural lustre
.The Reactive: An Ebonizing process where we bathe the wood in a solution of steel wool and vinegar. This reacts with the natural tannins in the Blackbutt to create a deep, charcoal patina.
